The Canadian Real Estate Association reported a decline in home sales for August compared to the previous year, citing ongoing economic challenges that could impede market growth for the rest of the year. According to CREA, home sales in August reached 37,504, marking a 6.9% drop from August 2025 figures. Adjusted for seasonal variations, sales decreased by 0.7% compared to July 2026. Senior economist Shaun Cathcart highlighted concerns over rising inflation and potential interest rate increases, which may impact sales activity negatively. The national average selling price for a home last month was $668,219, representing a 0.6% increase year-over-year. CREA also noted a 3.3% rise in new listings in August, ending a three-month decline trend earlier in the summer.
