Comedian and late-night host John Oliver is set to fulfill a longstanding dream by appearing in a daytime soap opera. ABC’s “General Hospital” announced that Oliver will have a significant guest role in a three-episode arc starting this Thursday, with subsequent episodes airing on July 3 and July 6.
Earlier this year, Oliver expressed his desire to be cast in a soap opera during an episode of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight.” He made a passionate plea, stating his genuine love for soap operas and offering himself for a role, emphasizing that he wanted to play a character, not himself.
Responding to Oliver’s plea, “General Hospital” welcomed him to Port Charles, with the show’s Instagram account extending an open invitation. While details of Oliver’s role remain secret, ABC released a preview image showing him in a navy blue suit, flanked by two men in tactical gear.
The show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, praised Oliver’s professionalism and humor on set, hinting at the significant role Oliver will play in the storyline. Oliver expressed his excitement, calling the experience an honor and a memorable moment in the history of “General Hospital.”
