“Saskatchewan Huskies Head to Vanier Cup After Mitchell Bowl Victory”

Featured in:

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies secured a spot in the national championship by defeating the Queen’s Golden Gaels 22-11 in the Mitchell Bowl held in Saskatoon on Saturday. Their next challenge will be facing off against the Montreal Carabins in the upcoming Vanier Cup in Regina.

Daniel Kubongo, who excelled as the offensive player of the game, showcased his talent with an impressive 85-yard punt return for a touchdown during the second quarter. This play contributed significantly to the Huskies’ 14-1 lead at halftime. Kubongo’s gesture of flashing the number 11 after scoring the touchdown was a tribute to Huskie quarterback Anton Amundrud.

The Huskies played with heavy hearts as they rallied around Amundrud, who recently received a cancer diagnosis. Head coach Scott Flory expressed deep admiration for Amundrud, emphasizing the emotional bond within the team during this challenging time.

In a game marked by strong defensive performances, both teams struggled to score continuously. The Queen’s team made a comeback in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with a touchdown and field goal. However, the Huskies maintained their lead and secured the victory with key plays from their special teams and defense.

Fifth-year linebacker Seth Hundeby was named the defensive player of the game for his outstanding performance, including two sacks and a forced fumble. Looking ahead, the Huskies are geared up to compete for the Vanier Cup against the Montreal Carabins after a well-deserved win in the Mitchell Bowl.
