“Rob Reiner’s Son Petitions for Trust Funds in Murder Defense”

Featured in:

Nick Reiner, the son of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner, has filed a petition in a Los Angeles County court seeking access to funds from a trust set up by his parents. The 32-year-old claims he requires the money to assist in his legal defense against accusations of killing his parents. The petition, filed by his civil lawyers, argues that the trustees have unjustly denied him access to the funds, emphasizing his right to a fair defense as he faces murder charges.

Despite the tragic deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Singer Reiner, who were fatally stabbed in their Brentwood home in December 2025, the trust dispute does not involve the circumstances of their demise. Nick Reiner, who maintains his innocence and has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges, asserts his entitlement to the funds allocated to him in the trust.

Following his arrest shortly after the incident, Nick Reiner enlisted the services of high-profile attorney Alan Jackson, who later withdrew from the case due to undisclosed reasons. The recent court filing discloses that Reiner’s siblings initially agreed to cover Jackson’s fees but later reversed their decision.

The petition details that the trust, which holds assets amounting to at least $1.5 million, was established by his parents with specific instructions for disbursement to Nick Reiner and his siblings. However, the trustee overseeing Nick’s share has allegedly failed to release the funds as stipulated, citing various unfounded concerns.

Nick Reiner is adamant about accessing the trust funds promptly to finance his defense and cover essential expenses while in custody. The legal proceedings related to his murder trial are ongoing, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for September. The possibility of the death penalty remains undecided by the District Attorney’s office, and the case continues to unfold with many unanswered questions surrounding the tragic events.
