Heartfelt Plea: Family Seeks Answers in Dad’s Mysterious Disappearance

Featured in:

Danny Ballantyne was only nine years old when his father, Drew Ballantyne, disappeared. He fondly recalls playing basketball and soccer with his dad, emphasizing his father’s sense of humor and their shared experiences biking and shopping for clothes. Drew, who was 34 at the time, went missing in June 2022 from Pelican Narrows, situated within the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation in northeast Saskatchewan.

In a heartfelt plea, Danny urges the public to assist in locating his father, displaying a 10-foot sign with Drew’s photos outside their residence on 15th Street West in Prince Albert. Tragically, Drew’s mother, Loretta Ballantyne, who spearheaded the search efforts, passed away in October 2024 without learning the fate of her son.

Carmelita Ballantyne, Drew’s sister, expresses the family’s tireless efforts in searching various communities, distributing posters, and cooperating with law enforcement to find Drew. Despite facing challenges and uncertainties, they remain determined to uncover the truth behind Drew’s disappearance. Roy Ballantyne, Drew’s father, voices concerns about gang-related violence being a potential factor in Drew’s vanishing.

Reportedly, Drew was subject to a Canada-wide warrant due to breaching his statutory release conditions from federal prison at the time of his disappearance. Carol-Ann Ballantyne, another sister, recalls dropping Drew off at a residence in Prince Albert on the night he went missing, underscoring the family’s anguish and frustration with initial police responses.

The Prince Albert Police Service commenced an investigation after Drew was reported missing on July 1, 2022. Inspector Lisa Simonson affirms ongoing efforts to trace Drew’s last known movements in Saskatoon and encourages anyone with information to come forward. The police have interviewed witnesses, scrutinized electronic records, and pursued leads to unravel the mystery.

Described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds, with distinctive tattoos and attire, Drew was last seen in a black ball cap and Adidas tracksuit. The family, supported by a private investigator, urges the public to share any pertinent details, clinging to hope amidst the uncertainty surrounding Drew’s disappearance.
