“Tracker” TV Series Moves Production to California

Featured in:

The popular CBS TV series “Tracker” is relocating its production to California after filming in Vancouver and southern British Columbia for three seasons. Actor Justin Hartley stars in the show as a survivalist who tracks down missing individuals for rewards. The fourth season will commence filming in Los Angeles next month with a $48 million US tax credit, as reported by entertainment industry website Deadline.

Disney Television Studios, the parent company of 20th Television, the production company behind “Tracker,” confirmed the move to CBC News. Since its premiere in February 2024, “Tracker” has been a ratings hit for CBS and airs on Global TV in Canada.

The departure of “Tracker” from British Columbia is seen as a significant loss by industry insiders. Gemma Martini, CEO of Martini Film Studios, expressed disappointment, emphasizing the show’s contribution to the local economy and communities.

The series, consisting of 22 episodes, extensively filmed in various locations in and around Vancouver. Showrunner Elwood Reid expressed gratitude to the Vancouver crew for their work on the first three seasons but also expressed excitement about filming season four in Los Angeles due to the tax incentives offered.

California’s $750 million incentive program has attracted “Tracker” and 15 other productions by granting tax credits. This move signifies a loss for Vancouver’s film and television industry, known as “Hollywood North.” Despite this setback, several other productions are ongoing in the region, including the hit series “Animal Control” and “Scrubs.”

The expansion of the film and television industry in British Columbia has been supported by tax credits and incentives, with hopes for more major projects and job opportunities in the province. The sector contributed significantly to the economy in 2024, creating thousands of jobs and generating billions in revenue.
