Americans are gearing up to commemorate 250 years of independence with lively festivities in Washington D.C. featuring ’90s music icons. Freedom 250’s Great American State Fair will rock to the beats of Vanilla Ice and C+C Music Factory at the I Love the 90’s! concert on June 26. However, rapper Young MC has backed out, citing concerns about the event’s alleged political connections.
In a Facebook post, Young MC expressed his decision not to perform at the Freedom 250 event, claiming that the artists were unaware of any political ties. The event, described by SPIN magazine as Trump-supported, has faced criticism for its perceived partisan nature. Milli Vanilli also confirmed that they will not be part of the show, contrary to earlier announcements.
Freedom 250, promoting the event as a celebration of the American spirit, has faced backlash for glorifying U.S. President Donald Trump in various commemorative activities. The lineup for the event includes other musical acts scheduled to perform during the fair, running from June 25 to July 10. However, uncertainties loom over the final performer list due to multiple withdrawals.
Morris Day, initially announced as part of the lineup, clarified on Instagram that he will not be performing. Another member of C+C Music Factory, Freedom Williams, reaffirmed his commitment to the concert despite initial hesitations, emphasizing his independence from external influences. Country singer Martina McBride, the Commodores, and Bret Michaels have also pulled out from their scheduled performances, citing a shift towards a more divisive atmosphere contrary to their expectations.
