The Winnipeg Jets have announced that their star goalie, Connor Hellebuyck, will undergo knee surgery and will be sidelined for four to six weeks. Hellebuyck, with a 2.51 goals-against average and .913 save percentage this season, has been playing through a knee injury, as revealed by Jets coach Scott Arniel.
Arniel mentioned that the timing was right for Hellebuyck to address the nagging knee issue that has been affecting him since training camp. Despite trying to push through the discomfort, it has become necessary for Hellebuyck to undergo the arthroscopic procedure now.
Hellebuyck, who previously won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP and the Vezina Trophy for top goaltender in the 2024-25 season, led the Jets to the best regular-season record in the league. The surgery precedes the upcoming Olympic men’s hockey tournament in Milan, Italy, where Hellebuyck was expected to feature for the United States.
In Hellebuyck’s absence, Eric Comrie is set to step into the starting goaltender position for the Jets. Comrie has performed well this season with a 4-1 record, a 2.60 GAA, and a .908 save percentage. Additionally, the Jets have called up Thomas Milic from the Manitoba Moose in the AHL as a replacement goalie.
