Detective Charlie Hudson is making a comeback to the investigative scene. Actor John Reardon is set to reprise his role in the ninth season of the popular series, “Hudson & Rex,” as announced by Citytv on Tuesday. Reardon, a native of Halifax, originally led the cop-dog procedural but was temporarily replaced by English actor Luke Roberts during Season 8.
In a social media update last year, Reardon revealed that his departure from the show was not voluntary. He disclosed that he had been battling tonsil cancer since Season 7 and had undergone treatment. Although medically cleared to return, the production team opted to go in a different direction, prompting a global outcry from fans who flooded the show’s social media platforms and even took out newspaper ads demanding Reardon’s reinstatement.
Expressing his enthusiasm to reprise the character of Charlie, Reardon stated, “The series has garnered a devoted following worldwide, and I appreciate the unwavering support.” He eagerly anticipates commencing filming for the upcoming season alongside the cast, crew, and network partners to deliver more thrilling adventures with Rex for the fans.
Shaftesbury, the show’s production company, expressed their delight at welcoming Reardon back, acknowledging the missed presence of the actor. Christina Jennings, the chairman and CEO, conveyed their excitement to resume work and present fans with an exciting new season.
The new season’s production is set to kick off in June in St. John’s, N.L., according to Citytv. The network hinted at the upcoming storyline, indicating that viewers can expect a surprising return of Charlie Hudson to St. John’s, closing a chapter from his past Belize ordeal. Meanwhile, Luke Roberts will continue in his role as Det. Mark Hudson on the show.
