Laurence Fournier Beaudry recently acquired French citizenship, opening the opportunity for the 33-year-old Canadian native to compete for France at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics alongside her partner Guillaume Cizeron.
Earlier this year, Olympic ice dance champion Cizeron decided to team up with Fournier Beaudry following the suspension of her former partner, Nikolaj Sorensen, for “sexual maltreatment.” Fournier Beaudry, who previously represented Denmark, shared her official French citizenship announcement on Instagram, expressing immense joy and gratitude towards those who have supported her throughout her journey.
It is common for ice dance and pairs figure skaters to switch national allegiances due to partner shortages. Cizeron, aged 30, and his previous partner Gabriella Papadakis secured the 2022 Beijing Olympic gold medal and five world titles before retiring in December 2024. Cizeron made a competitive comeback with Fournier Beaudry, culminating in their victory at the Grand Prix de France last month.
