“Blue Jays’ World Series Game 7 Broadcast Sets Canadian Record”

Featured in:

Blue Jays supporters faced a tense finale in Game 7 of the World Series, but they were glued to the screen for the thrilling action of the season’s last baseball showdown on Saturday night. Rogers reported that the broadcast of Game 7, where the Blue Jays narrowly lost 5-4 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in extra innings, drew an average audience of 10.9 million viewers in Canada. This viewership, spanning Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, and Citytv, marked a record for the most-watched Rogers broadcast ever, as announced by the company on Monday.

The Toronto-L.A. clash garnered an average of 7.5 million Canadian viewers throughout the seven games of the series, according to Rogers. The company noted that the seven World Series broadcasts became the seven most-viewed Blue Jays games in history. Toronto ultimately succumbed to Los Angeles in the series with a 4-3 defeat. The Blue Jays secured victories in Game 1, Game 4, and Game 5 of the World Series.

Rogers Communications Inc. assumed full ownership of the Blue Jays in 2004 after acquiring a majority stake in the franchise in 2000. Additionally, the company possesses the Rogers Centre stadium, formerly known as SkyDome.

The recently concluded World Series marked Toronto’s third appearance in Major League Baseball’s annual championship. While the Blue Jays clinched back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993, they had not returned to the Fall Classic until this season. On the other hand, the Dodgers secured their ninth championship by defeating the Blue Jays, making them repeat champions following their 2024 victory. The Dodgers also claimed the title in the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
