The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation reported that overwhelming demand for tickets in the record-breaking $2 million Grey Cup 50/50 draw led to technical issues resulting in duplicate purchases for some participants. As a result, the draw for the winning numbers has been postponed until the lottery provider resolves the situation and ensures the accuracy of the 50/50 pool.
The total amount of the 50/50 draw surged to $2,005,107 following the Grey Cup game on Sunday night, making it the largest single-game 50/50 prize in the history of the CFL. The foundation acknowledged that a fraction of purchasers experienced multiple charges due to the high volume of website traffic during the ticket sales.
The foundation assured that those affected by duplicate charges, albeit a small percentage of buyers, will receive refunds promptly. The impact of these duplicate transactions on the final prize amount is currently unknown, and the timing of the draw remains uncertain.
The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation, the team’s charitable arm, focuses on supporting education, health, and amateur football programs in the province.
