“Pakistan Airstrikes in Afghanistan Spark Casualties”

Featured in:

Pakistan conducted airstrikes along the border with Afghanistan, targeting hideouts of Pakistani militants responsible for recent attacks inside Pakistan, resulting in more than a dozen casualties, as reported by the Afghan Red Crescent Society. The Afghan Defence Ministry stated that various civilian areas in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces were struck, including a religious madrassa and multiple civilian homes, labeling the strikes as a violation of Afghanistan’s airspace and sovereignty.

According to Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the attacks caused casualties among women and children. The Afghan Red Crescent Society’s provincial director in Nangarhar province confirmed 18 fatalities and multiple injuries from the airstrikes.

Pakistan’s information minister, Attaullah Tarar, disclosed that the military conducted targeted operations against seven camps belonging to the Pakistani Taliban and its affiliates, along with an Islamic State group affiliate. Tarar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability while prioritizing the safety of its citizens.

Pakistan has experienced increased militant violence in recent years, primarily attributed to the Pakistani Taliban and outlawed Baloch separatist groups. The Pakistani military responded firmly to a suicide bombing targeting a security convoy in Bannu district, warning of continued operations against those responsible.

Furthermore, a separate suicide bombing in Bajaur district resulted in casualties, with authorities later identifying the attacker as an Afghan national. Tarar cited conclusive evidence linking recent attacks to Afghanistan-based militants and urged the international community to pressure Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers to prevent cross-border attacks into Pakistan.

The Qatari-brokered ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan followed border clashes, but tensions persist despite diplomatic efforts. Talks in Istanbul failed to yield a formal agreement, underscoring the strained relations between the two neighboring nations.
