“Ontario Teacher Pleads Guilty to Luring Students with Snapchat”

Featured in:

An eighth-grade teacher in Ontario pleaded guilty to charges related to luring and child pornography after using Snapchat to exchange nude images with former students. Kelly-Anne Jennings, 41, faced six charges, including child luring and distributing explicit material to minors, involving teenage boys who were her students.

During the court appearance in Peterborough, Ontario, Jennings admitted her guilt when questioned by Justice Nathan N. Baker. Additional charges, such as sexual assault, were dropped at the Crown’s request. The court learned that Jennings, under the influence of alcohol, sent explicit photos and videos, including self-masturbation footage, to the former students via Snapchat. She also received nude images from the boys upon request.

To protect the victims’ identities, a publication ban was imposed, preventing the disclosure of their names or the school where Jennings taught. Parents of the victims expressed their dismay, with one describing Jennings’ actions as predatory and manipulative.

Following the initial allegations in August 2024, Jennings was placed on unpaid leave from her teaching position in Port Hope. Subsequently, she was no longer employed by the school board, as stated by a spokesperson from the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic District School Board.

Despite being in “good standing” on the Ontario College of Teachers website, Jennings now faces a possible four-year prison term, as recommended by the Crown. Her defense lawyer proposed a conditional sentence of two years less a day, followed by probation. Jennings is scheduled to appear in court again on November 27.
