“La La Land Anniversary Poster Alters Ryan Gosling’s Wrist Pose”

The approaching 10th anniversary of the popular musical romantic-comedy “La La Land” by Damien Chazelle is causing a stir among fans. Rather than discussing the film’s cinematography or iconic scenes, the focus has shifted to a particular detail – Ryan Gosling’s wrist.

In anticipation of a special re-release in theaters nationwide on Aug. 16, Lionsgate Studios unveiled a new poster for “La La Land” that addresses a detail Gosling has expressed regret over. In a 2024 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Gosling revealed that he wished he could redo his role as jazz pianist Sebastian Wilder, specifically mentioning a dance sequence with Emma Stone where he made a choice that he now finds regrettable.

Gosling explained that during a pivotal dance scene, he decided to pose with a “hamburger hands” gesture, which he believed was cooler but later realized dampened the scene’s energy. The new poster now features a modified version of Gosling’s pose to align more closely with Stone’s stance, prompting Lionsgate to humorously acknowledge Gosling’s feedback.

During the unveiling of the updated poster, Lionsgate’s executive vice-president of worldwide television marketing, Justin Manfredi, mentioned that Gosling was pleased with the alteration after being consulted and approving the change. However, not all fans share Gosling’s sentiment, with some expressing disappointment over the revised poster, arguing that the original mismatched poses better conveyed the film’s themes.

Gosling had previously attempted to rectify his “La La Hand” in a TikTok video posted earlier this year during the promotion of his sci-fi film “Project Hail Mary.” Despite mixed reactions, the revised poster reflects Gosling’s desire to address his wrist pose from the film’s original marketing material.
