Former Israeli PM Ehud Barak Regrets Epstein Ties

Featured in:

Former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak expressed regret for his longstanding association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including regular communication and multiple visits to Epstein’s residence in Manhattan and private island. Barak, who has not been accused of any misconduct related to Epstein’s crimes, acknowledged his relationship with Epstein in an exclusive interview with Israel’s Channel 12, apologizing to those who may have been discomforted.

Barak disclosed that he and his wife had maintained contact with Epstein over the years, as revealed in documents released by the U.S. Justice Department. Despite his visits and interactions with Epstein, Barak emphasized that he had not engaged in any unlawful activities. Epstein, facing charges of sexually abusing and trafficking minors, died in custody in 2019 prior to trial.

In the interview, Barak anticipated additional revelations from the released documents but maintained his innocence, asserting that no incriminating evidence would surface. He clarified that he distanced himself from Epstein in 2019 upon learning the extent of Epstein’s criminal activities.

Barak admitted to visiting Epstein on numerous occasions, including traveling on Epstein’s private plane and staying at his New York residence post his tenure as prime minister. While acknowledging awareness of Epstein’s prior legal troubles, Barak believed Epstein had paid his dues to society.

The former prime minister’s ties to Epstein emerged during his failed political comeback, with reports of financial support from the Wexner Foundation, where Epstein served as a trustee. Barak dismissed claims of financial backing from Epstein, stating that their relationship was minimal.

Additionally, newly released documents revealed Epstein’s connections with other prominent figures, including linking Barak with Steve Bannon. Barak maintained that he had no involvement in any illicit activities associated with Epstein.

In a separate development, DP World, a major logistics firm, announced new leadership changes following the release of Epstein-related documents. The company appointed Essa Kazim as chair and Yuvraj Narayan as group CEO, replacing Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem. Financial entities in Canada and the UK paused collaborations with DP World after revelations of bin Sulayem’s association with Epstein.

The unredacted emails between bin Sulayem and Epstein referenced explicit content but did not implicate bin Sulayem in Epstein’s criminal acts. DP World, known for its global port operations, faced scrutiny over its ties to individuals named in the Epstein documents.

U.S. lawmakers and corporate executives faced backlash over their relationships with Epstein, prompting resignations and public condemnation. Goldman Sachs’ legal officer, Kathy Ruemmler, announced her resignation amid controversy surrounding her past interactions with Epstein, despite denouncing his actions publicly. Ruemmler, a former White House counsel, acknowledged receiving lavish gifts from Epstein in the past.

Overall, the fallout from the Epstein case continues to impact individuals and organizations worldwide, raising questions about accountability and transparency in high-profile relationships.
