Dawson Creek RCMP is currently probing a suspected homicide case following the discovery of the remains of a 24-year-old woman who had been reported missing several weeks earlier.
Emily Ogden, aged 24, was reported missing from Fort St. John, located approximately 74 kilometers northeast of Dawson Creek, on March 29. Her remains were unearthed on April 14 and officially identified by authorities on April 24.
Sgt. Kris Clark mentioned in a statement, “We are seeking information from anyone who may have had contact with Emily from the time she was reported missing until her body was found.”
Described as a white female, Emily Ogden stood at five feet ten inches tall and weighed 155 pounds. She had brown eyes, light brown/blond hair, and a distinctive honeycomb neck tattoo.
This incident adds to a string of violent occurrences in Dawson Creek, a community of around 12,400 residents in northeastern B.C. These include several notable shootings, such as a drive-by incident in a residential area and another in a commercial zone that resulted in one fatality and one injury earlier this year. As a result, additional police reinforcements have been dispatched to the region.
Dawson Creek has been grappling with the aftermath of a series of violent events over the past few years, which were the focus of a CBC Fifth Estate investigation aired last autumn. The investigation revealed that since 2021, 11 individuals have either disappeared or been killed in the area, a significant surge considering that just seven years ago, the city had recorded only one homicide.
