In Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, last-minute preparations are underway for the upcoming Winter Olympics amidst a flurry of activity. Construction work continues near the finish area as the curling tournament is set to begin on Wednesday, followed by the women’s downhill training on Thursday.
Despite facing time constraints, organizers have managed to complete a new sliding center just in time for the Games. However, a cable car intended for spectators at the women’s Alpine skiing events will not be ready, leading to requests for temporary school closures to alleviate transportation challenges.
While some finishing touches are still pending, Olympic Games executive director Christophe Dubi assures that all athlete requirements have been met. The organizing committee remains focused on enhancing the overall experience for participants and spectators.
IOC president Kirsty Coventry has expressed confidence in the progress made, emphasizing that the event is on track. The Milano Cortina organizing committee has not provided an immediate response to inquiries from Reuters.
The Winter Olympics, spanning from February 6-22, will feature nearly 3,000 athletes representing 93 countries across 22,000 square kilometers in Northern Italy. With competition spread out in six Olympic villages, participants will engage in 116 events across eight sports and 16 disciplines.
