“Canadian Figure Skaters Shine at 2025 Finlandia Trophy”

Featured in:

Canadian figure skaters delivered strong performances in the short programs at the 2025 Finlandia Trophy, positioning themselves well to contend for podium finishes in all disciplines. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier claimed second place with a score of 79.56 in the rhythm dance, narrowly trailing the French duo of Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron. Fournier Beaudry, originally from Montreal, joined forces with Cizeron, the reigning Olympic champion, this season after her former partner, Nikolaj Sorensen, received and later overturned a lengthy suspension.

Meanwhile, in the men’s short program, Stephen Gogolev secured the second spot with 89.35 points, showcasing a near-flawless performance that included two quad jumps and a triple axel. The Toronto native outperformed Yuma Kagiyama of Japan, a three-time world silver medalist, who finished third due to a few mistakes. Adam Siao Him Fa, the European champion and world bronze medalist, led the standings with 92.50 points, with Roman Sadovsky, the reigning national champion from Vaughan, Ont., in sixth place.

Madeline Schizas, a three-time Canadian champion and a strong candidate for the nation’s sole women’s Olympic spot, claimed third place in the short program with 65.16 points. She trailed behind Amber Glenn of the United States and Mone Chiba of Japan. Additionally, in the pairs event, Canada’s Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud finished fourth with 70.13 points, maintaining a competitive position within a closely contested field.

The Finlandia Trophy serves as the final competition in the Grand Prix series, offering skaters the last opportunity to qualify for the Grand Prix Final, where the top six performers in each discipline will compete from December 5-8 in Nagoya, Japan.
