Aston Villa vs PSG viewers spot embarrassing blunder seconds before Champions League clash

Champions League officials were left red-faced on Tuesday evening – after the Europa League anthem was accidentally played before Aston Villa’s quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain. Anticipation was building inside Villa Park in what was one of the biggest games in the club’s history.

But supporters could have been forgiven for thinking they were playing in a different competition.

As both sets of players lined up, everyone inside the ground was expecting to hear the classic Champions League anthem by Tony Britten. But Amazon Prime viewers noticed there had been a huge gaffe when the wrong music started playing.

PSG players looked visibly dumbstruck during the strange moment, as Ousmane Dembele was seen making a confused face, while Vitinha was seen glancing at his team-mates.

Luckily, at the last minute the correct Champions League anthem was played for a brief time period – but it didn’t do anything to cover up the mistake.

Fans were left similarly baffled on social media as they questioned what had happened to result in such a mix-up.

One supporter decided to poke fun at Manchester United as they tweeted: “Madness! Did Villa hire the Man United DJ who played the Europa League anthem instead of UCL’s?”

Another added: “One of the biggest nights in their history and someone plays the Europa League anthem instead of the Champions League one at Villa Park. That is hilarious.”
