Kamala Harris Considering 2028 Presidential Bid

Featured in:

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who ran as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 2024, expressed her contemplation about a potential presidential bid in 2028 during an event at the National Action Network, a civil rights group founded by Rev. Al Sharpton. When directly asked by Sharpton about her intentions, Harris responded, “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it,” prompting cheers from the audience in New York City.

Harris emphasized that her decision would be based on identifying the individual best suited to serve the American people as president in 2028. Having previously served as the Vice President under President Joe Biden, Harris faced defeat in the 2024 presidential election to then-President Donald Trump, who secured victories in both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Before her vice presidency, Harris held positions as a U.S. senator and California’s attorney general. She also ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2020.

Looking ahead to a potential 2028 campaign, Harris may encounter voter challenges as polls suggest a desire for new leadership within the Democratic Party following her loss to Trump. The National Action Network convention attracted various potential Democratic contenders, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, among others.
