Jets’ Cornerback Kris Boyd Injured in Manhattan Shooting

Featured in:

New York Jets’ cornerback and key special teams player, Kris Boyd, sustained critical injuries in a shooting incident in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning, as reported by various news sources. The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. near 7th Avenue on West 38th Street, according to the New York Police Department. A 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, though stable. Currently, there have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.

Although the police did not disclose the victim’s identity, multiple news outlets identified the injured man as Kris Boyd. The Jets’ spokesperson mentioned, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will not provide further comments at this time.” Boyd’s agent has yet to respond to inquiries about the incident.

Boyd, who joined the Jets this season but hasn’t played due to a shoulder injury that necessitated surgery, signed with the team as a free agent in March. He was anticipated to be a significant contributor to the team’s revamped special teams unit under the new coaching staff. Unfortunately, Boyd sustained the injury during training camp in August and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.

Having spent most of his NFL career with the Houston Texans, Boyd gained recognition as a standout special teams player. He previously played for the Minnesota Vikings and briefly with the Arizona Cardinals before joining the Texans.

Teammates have taken to social media to request prayers for Boyd’s recovery, expressing their support and hope for his swift return to health and safety.
