Get prepared for a new series of eliminations: The third installment of Big Brother Canada is set to make a return, airing on CTV and Crave. The popular reality competition will kick off production in Montreal next spring, with casting specifics to be disclosed at a later time, as stated by Bell Media during its recent upfront presentations in Toronto. Additionally, the network will broadcast the enduring U.S. version of Big Brother starting in the summer of 2027.
Taking inspiration from George Orwell’s renowned novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the reality show brings together a group of participants—referred to as houseguests—in a specially constructed residence where they are constantly monitored through audio and video, isolated from the external world, and vying for a cash prize. Contestants navigate through interpersonal conflicts and evolving connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, striving to evade eviction and elimination from the game.
Hosting the Canadian revival is lifestyle host and entertainment journalist Andrea Bain, known for her current role as a co-host on CTV’s daytime show The Social and her past appearance on CBC’s daytime talk show The Goods. Expressing her excitement on social media, she shared, “If you’ve watched me over the years, you know how much I love reality television, big personalities, unexpected twists and unforgettable moments. So to now be part of a franchise that has delivered all of that for decades is truly a dream come true.”
Bell’s agreement encompasses the previous 12 seasons of the show, available for binge-watching on Crave, alongside the French-language version Big Brother Célébrités. Since its inception in the late 1990s in the Netherlands, Big Brother has been adapted in numerous countries worldwide, achieving success from Brazil to the U.K., India to Australia.
Initially launched by Shaw Media and Corus Entertainment on Slice in 2013, the Canadian version of the show was later moved to the primary network Global in 2015. The series was hosted by broadcaster and entertainment journalist Arisa Cox, known for her involvement in the early 2000s reality series U8TV: The Lofters. Following a hiatus after the fifth season, fan demand led to the renewal for a sixth season. However, disappointment arose when Global announced its cancellation in June 2024.
