Renowned Grammy-winning R&B artist Peabo Bryson, known for his iconic duets in Disney films such as “Beauty and the Beast” with Céline Dion and “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle from Aladdin, has passed away at the age of 75.
The family expressed their sorrow over Bryson’s passing but found solace in the love and impact he had on countless lives through his music and kind spirit. Apart from his Disney classics, Bryson had a successful career spanning over five decades, delivering hits like “Feel the Fire,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Can You Stop the Rain.”
Celine Dion, in a tribute on X, remembered Bryson as an inspiration during their collaboration on “Beauty and the Beast.” The song, written and produced by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, received accolades, including two Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards. Bryson, a nominee for eight Grammys, also won for his duet with Regina Belle.
Hailing from South Carolina, Bryson collaborated with numerous artists, including Minnie Riperton, Roberta Flack, and Natalie Cole. Throughout his career, he achieved chart success with songs like “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.”
In 2018, Bryson made a musical comeback with his album “Stand for Love,” produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. His latest album, “Grace,” released in February, continued his collaboration with the renowned producers.
Aside from his music career, Bryson also showcased his talents in stage productions such as “Raisin,” “The Wiz,” and “Porgy and Bess.” Despite health challenges, including a heart attack in 2019 and a recent stroke, Bryson remained resilient.
Friends and colleagues, including comedian Loni Love, paid tribute to Bryson, highlighting his passion for music and his genuine love for his craft. The mayor of Atlanta, where Bryson resided, also honored his legacy.
