“Vancouver Goldeneyes to Debut at Pacific Coliseum”

Featured in:

When the Vancouver-based PWHL expansion team faces off against Seattle on November 21, their team name and logo will be prominently displayed at the center of Pacific Coliseum, marking a significant moment for women’s hockey in Vancouver.

The newly named Vancouver Goldeneyes will compete against the Seattle Torrent, as announced by the PWHL. This expansion signifies the league’s growth to eight teams from its original six, with players set to start training camps soon in preparation for the upcoming season.

The branding process for these new women’s professional hockey teams began earlier this year when Vancouver and Seattle were revealed as expansion markets. The selection of names was a thoughtful process, aiming to resonate authentically with the local communities.

Named after the protective common goldeneye bird found in the region, the Vancouver Goldeneyes’ logo features the bird’s distinctive eye, reflecting the team’s primary colors of Pacific blue, coastal cream, and earthy bronze. The Goldeneyes symbolize Vancouver’s spirit of strength, unity, and resilience.

In contrast, Seattle’s branding emphasizes the waterways of Washington, with the Torrent’s logo showcasing a stylized “S” representing Seattle and the flow of water. This nod to Seattle’s rainy climate and natural beauty captures the strength and energy associated with water.

Although the new team names and logos are already available for purchase, the jerseys for the Vancouver Goldeneyes and Seattle Torrent will initially feature the city names. This tradition aligns with past PWHL team introductions and allows time for the new identities to resonate with fans and players.

The league is set to kick off its new season on November 21, with the Toronto Sceptres facing the Minnesota Frost before the Seattle Torrent plays against the Vancouver Goldeneyes on the same night. Each team will compete in 30 games throughout the season, with a break for the Olympics in between.
