A severe dust storm swept through Libya on Tuesday, causing poor visibility and leading to the temporary closure of flights at Benghazi and Tripoli international airports. Libya, situated in the Sahara Desert, is susceptible to dust storms, a seasonal occurrence that typically peaks in April during the spring. These storms are created by powerful winds lifting dry soil, carrying dust and sand over long distances.
Benghazi, the second-largest city in Libya located on the eastern coast, bore the brunt of the storm, as it was engulfed in a thick orange haze. The scenes resembled a surreal landscape akin to the movie “Dune.” In the midst of the storm, individuals were observed capturing the unusual phenomenon, showcasing the impact of the dust storm on the city.
