Love Triangle UK star Lois Grace has revealed the horrific online abuse she has received after appearing on the Channel 4 show. The single mum-of-one, 34, has opened up about her experience on the reality TV show after she was paired with barber Danny Andrews, 35, who is also well recognised from the viral ‘rice and fishcakes’ meme.
Danny, who found love on the show with influencer Sadie Bass, 29, was given the task of texting both Lois and Sadie at the same time – without knowing anything about them, including how they look – before he ultimately picked one before going on a date and living together for a week. After finding a connection with Lois over text, Danny chose to meet her before the pair moved in together for a week to see if love blossomed.
Unfortunately for Lois, things quickly went from bad to worse when they both realised that there was no sexual attraction or feelings between the two of them, and they were stuck living in the Love Triangle house together for a week.
After the week, things reached an all-time low when Danny chose to meet his second match Sadie, and quickly started pursuing her. This ended in a huge argument where Lois claims that she was left feeling uncomfortable in the house.
“It was the most intense thing I have ever experienced in my life. I have never gone through so many emotions all at the same time,” Lois said of her time on the Channel 4 show.
“The edit of the show was really, really, frustrating for me when I watched it because they cut so many scenes which were important. For instance, they filmed a scene of myself and Danny when we first moved into the Love Triangle house of us cooking dinner together. But that wasn’t actually day one, that was day two and there was a scene where Danny told me that he didn’t find me sexually attractive.
“The producers went straight in with the narrative that I was this really strong and cold person. But in reality, when Danny and I moved in together, we actually went out to the garden and played games and had a bottle of prosecco and that was when I told him I had a daughter and that I’m a single mum and that I’m very strong and independent.
“I have a background to who I was but from a viewer’s perspective, they didn’t have a clue who I was. There was no background for me but most of the other cast members got to show their backgrounds as to who they are.”
“I had a lot of concerns about Danny’s personality which I did raise to production. I saw a couple of red flags at the very beginning. But because I wasn’t looking at him in a romantic level, I just kind of pushed those aside because I thought we were just going to be friends so those kind of things don’t really matter.
“However, after the first dinner party, the producers pulled me aside and told me that I had main character energy.” However, when Lois told Danny what the producers said, she claims he wasn’t one bit happy that she was getting more attention than him.
“Danny was furious and when we got back to the house and he was shouting his mouth off to the crew and everyone around. He was pacing up and down and he rang his friend and was saying really vile things on the phone – all because a producer said that I had main character energy. The things he was saying to his friend about me – right in front of me – was so vile. It was horrible.”
After the stressful night, Lois claims she was given a rude awakening the next morning. “I went to bed after that and I woke up in the morning to him blasting music outside my door and the song was ‘I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ by Elvis. This was six-o-clock in the morning. I was calling welfare and nobody was answering because it was early in the morning. Then he turned the music off and called his friend again.”
Lois says that she was left feeling deeply uncomfortable by the whole ordeal – despite being a strong and independent woman who is rarely fazed by the actions of others. In the end, she went to go stay in a hotel.
“He was standing right outside my door and he was saying all these really horrible things about me – things about me as a mum and things about my appearance. I didn’t want to leave my room because he was right outside of it.
“I’m not someone who ever feels uncomfortable but I cannot explain how uncomfortable I felt. Eventually I got hold of welfare and they told him to leave the house. I went to stay in a hotel then. I didn’t feel safe in that house.”
When approached by The Mirror on the claims, a Channel 4 spokesperson said: “The show is a fair and accurate reflection of events that happened during filming. We take the duty of care to our cast very seriously and all cast members were chaperoned during filming as part of our wider welfare protocols.”
After being given a ‘bad edit’ on the show, Lois has been dealing with the onslaught of hate comments which have shaken her to her core. The reality TV star knew that the public may love or hate her, describing herself as ‘marmite’, however, after the way she was perceived on the show, Lois has even received terrifying death threats from viewers.
She also claims that Danny’s friends have sent her vile and hurtful messages about her appearance and her role as a mum to her daughter. Danny denied these claims when approached by The Mirror.
“So the hardest thing about this whole thing is the trolls online who have watched the show and have just been made to believe that I am a vile and bitter woman. They have no idea what I have gone through. It has been horrible.
“The hate has been so shocking. I deserved an apology from Danny. He just kept trying to sell this narrative that I was this horrible woman. Danny wasn’t nice to me, he didn’t treat me right, and because of that I was angry. It’s that simple. However, I’m the one who is getting the abuse online now.”
“Women in particular have really come for me after the show. I have been called every name under the sun. If that wasn’t enough, I even had messages from Danny’s friends saying what an awful mother I am and one of them even told me that I shouldn’t be able to reproduce. I have been sent death threats, and horrible messages about me and my daughter, and my appearance.
“Yes, my friends and family are upset and they’re angry after watching the show but they would never ever message Danny and I think that says a lot about the people you surround yourself with.”
