ABC has decided to cancel the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, featuring Taylor Frankie Paul, due to a recently surfaced video from 2023. The announcement of the cancellation, made on Thursday, came just before the scheduled premiere on Sunday. Disney Entertainment Television released a statement stating they would not proceed with the new season in light of the video and are focusing on supporting the family.
The video in question, dated 2023, captured an altercation between Paul and Dakota Mortensen, which was published by TMZ. Paul faced legal consequences in 2023, having been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child. She later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault, with the other charges dropped.
Authorities in Draper City, Utah, revealed an ongoing domestic violence investigation involving Paul and Mortensen, her ex-partner, with allegations from both sides. Mortensen is the father of one of Paul’s three children. Representatives for both parties have not responded to requests for comments. ABC has not disclosed its plans for the show’s timeslot.
Paul, who was actively promoting Season 22 on ABC’s Good Morning America and at the Oscars, was an unconventional choice to lead The Bachelorette, having no prior appearances in the Bachelor franchise. However, she also stars in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, a reality show on Hulu, which, like ABC, is under Disney’s ownership. ABC acknowledged Paul’s influence in the MomTok community and her viral presence in Salt Lake’s soft-swinging scene.
Known for her role in the #MomTok community on TikTok, Paul made headlines in 2022 when she announced changes in her marital relationship leading to divorce. She shared on Instagram in December that filming for The Bachelorette had concluded, with Jesse Palmer as the host.
