The Grey Cup game is set to return to Regina in 2027, marking the second time in five years that the CFL final will be hosted in the capital city and home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Premier Scott Moe emphasized the strength of the fan base and community pride in Saskatchewan’s football team during Monday’s announcement. The backing from the City of Regina and the province played a crucial role in securing the 2027 Grey Cup, according to Saskatchewan Roughriders president Craig Reynolds.
Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski’s spokesperson revealed that the City of Regina has allocated $1.5 million for the Grey Cup, including cash and in-kind support for services like transit shuttles and police assistance. Bachynski emphasized the welcoming atmosphere visitors can expect, stating that the 2027 Grey Cup will be a memorable event.
The 2027 Grey Cup, scheduled for November 7, will be the fifth championship held in Regina and the second at the new Mosaic Stadium. The Roughriders have previously hosted the championship game four times, with the most recent one in 2022.
Anticipation is high for the Roughriders hosting the Grey Cup in their home city, especially after their victorious 2013 game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The current Grey Cup is taking place in Winnipeg, with Calgary set to host the event in 2026.
CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston commended the bid package presented by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, noting the exceptional support from the province, City of Regina, and local hotel operators. The 2027 Grey Cup festival will be entirely indoors for the first time, offering a unique experience for attendees.
Johnston praised Saskatchewan’s bid as “truly outstanding,” highlighting the collaborative effort and football culture in the province. While the CFL does not disclose other bid packages, Johnston emphasized the quality and thoughtfulness of Saskatchewan’s proposal.
