“Saskatchewan Roughriders to Introduce Tailgating at Mosaic Stadium”

Featured in:

Saskatchewan Roughriders supporters will soon have the opportunity to prepare food and enjoy their own alcoholic beverages outside Mosaic Stadium following the recent introduction of tailgating legislation by the province. The new Tailgating Act modifies the province’s Alcohol Control Regulations to permit tailgating in a parking area adjacent to the Roughriders stadium during home games.

Craig Reynolds, the CEO and President of the Roughriders, emphasized that the change, allowing tailgating exclusively for season ticket holders, is not aimed at increasing the team’s profits but is intended as a gesture of appreciation for fans. Reynolds anticipates high demand among season ticket holders for the pregame festivities before entering the stadium.

The plan is to start with a manageable group and potentially broaden the initiative later, according to Reynolds. If the legislation is approved, the tailgating space will be monitored by staff, likely from Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL). Vehicle access will be regulated, and clear behavioral expectations will be enforced.

Alana Ross, the minister overseeing the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, mentioned that the regulations will mandate a permit and close coordination with SLGA. She expressed confidence in the collaboration to ensure a successful experience for Roughriders fans and the city.

The provincial legislation was devised after the Roughriders engaged with the government earlier this year. Reynolds shared that he had been in contact with other CFL teams like Calgary and Edmonton regarding their tailgating protocols and would broaden his investigation to other markets.

The new regulations are expected to be in place for the 2026 CFL season, initially limited to events at Mosaic Stadium during Saskatchewan Roughriders home games. Post the 2026 CFL season, eligibility for tailgating may be broadened, as per the province’s statement.
