“Maple Leafs’ Tanev Hospitalized After Collision”

Featured in:

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was hospitalized following a collision with another player during Saturday night’s 5-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers. Coach Craig Berube reassured that Tanev had movement in all his limbs after the incident.

The collision occurred between Tanev and Philadelphia’s Matvei Michkov with 11:37 remaining in the game. Although the impact was shoulder-to-shoulder, Tanev’s head jolted back upon contact, leading him to lie on the ice.

Medical staff immediately tended to Tanev, stabilizing his head and neck before transporting him on a stretcher off the rink. This game marked Tanev’s return after missing four games due to a concussion, and Michkov received a minor penalty for interference.

Post-game, Berube mentioned that Tanev was taken to a hospital in Philadelphia for evaluation and still had movement in all his extremities. There was a possibility of Tanev returning with the team to Toronto.

Berube expressed, “He’s responsive, and I believe he will recover. He’s undergoing tests, so we’re monitoring the situation. There’s a chance he might travel back with us.”

During the second period, Tanev contributed with an assist on Jake McCabe’s goal. Auston Matthews, who scored in the match, shared, “It’s a difficult situation because he’s a vital part of our team. Whenever a stretcher is brought out, it’s concerning. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, hoping for his swift recovery.”
