Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles over potential fire hazards. The recall affects 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai officials. Despite the situation, Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth assured CBC News via email that there have been no reported fires, accidents, injuries, or fatalities in Canada related to this issue.
In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported the recall of 54,337 vehicles for the same issue. Hyundai has identified a problem with the hybrid power control unit in some cars, which could result in overheating. The NHTSA warns that this could lead to a “no start” situation or reduced power mode, potentially causing overheating and elevating the risk of a fire.
Hyundai has pledged to inform all impacted drivers and will provide a complimentary software update to address the overheating concern.
