George Springer is expected to return to the Toronto Blue Jays’ starting lineup in Game 6 of the World Series on Friday. Blue Jays manager John Schneider indicated that Springer is close to being cleared to play in the crucial game. The Blue Jays currently lead the series 3-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Schneider mentioned that Springer has been progressing well physically and that they will assess his readiness before the game. The veteran player had been sidelined for the past two games due to a midsection injury sustained during Game 3. Despite considering playing him in Game 5, Schneider opted to give Springer additional rest for his recovery.
Springer had an impressive regular season, hitting .309 with 32 home runs. However, he has been dealing with injuries during the playoffs but has managed to contribute with a .246 batting average, four home runs, and nine RBIs. Both teams held optional workouts at Rogers Centre before the game.
On the Dodgers’ side, manager Dave Roberts is contemplating using Shohei Ohtani as an opener or outfielder in a potential Game 7. Ohtani, a dual-threat player, could be utilized as a reliever after his pitching duties. However, the team would lose the designated hitter spot if Ohtani transitions from DH to pitcher during the game.
Roberts emphasized considering all options to navigate through the series and hinted at discussing strategies with Ohtani. Ohtani, known for his versatility, has excelled both on the mound and at the plate during the post-season. His potential role in Game 7 remains a topic of discussion as the series progresses.
