Flavor Flav, at the age of 66, experienced the thrill of sliding at 106 kilometers per hour, sparking his interest in bobsled and skeleton sports. The renowned musician, reality TV personality, and founding member of Public Enemy has been named the official hype man for the United States bobsled and skeleton program. Following his recent time spent with the team at the 2002 Olympic track in Utah, Flav is now gearing up to accompany the team at the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February.
Expressing his excitement, Flav described the partnership as a blessing, comparing it to the iconic film “Cool Runnings.” During his visit, Flav had the opportunity to slide down the Park City track in a bobsled and even tried his hand at skeleton, a high-speed sport where athletes can reach speeds over 129 km/h. Despite being advised to start from a lower point on the track for safety reasons, Flav insisted on a more challenging start and reached speeds of 108 km/h on his second run.
Flav’s adventurous spirit and love for sports have been evident in various events he has participated in, including pouring mayo at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and supporting athletes at the Paris Olympics. According to U.S. skeleton athlete Dan Barefoot, Flav’s presence has energized the team, fostering a sense of camaraderie and confidence among the members. His impact has been so significant that team members have exchanged contact information with him and enjoyed a Maroon 5 concert together.
USA Bobsled and Skeleton CEO Aron McGuire expressed enthusiasm for having Flavor Flav on board as an official sponsor and hype man, noting his genuine passion for sports and the team. McGuire highlighted Flav’s embodiment of grit, dedication, and pride, qualities that resonate with the team’s ethos and fans nationwide. The team looks forward to the energy and excitement Flav will bring to their endeavors and supporters in the upcoming competitions.
