Flavor Flav Joins US Bobsled Team as Official Hype Man

Featured in:

Flavor Flav, aged 66, experienced the thrill of sliding at a speed of 106 kilometers per hour, sparking his interest in the sport. The renowned musician, reality TV personality, and member of Public Enemy is now a supporter of the United States bobsled and skeleton program. His role as the official hype man for the team was confirmed by USA Bobsled and Skeleton after he spent time with them at the 2002 Olympic track in Utah and expressed his intent to join them at the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February.

During his time with the teams, Flav tried bobsledding and also ventured into skeleton, a high-speed headfirst sliding sport where athletes can reach speeds exceeding 129 km/h. Despite being advised to start from a lower point on the track for safety reasons, Flav insisted on starting higher up, showcasing his adventurous spirit. On his second run, he reached a speed of 108 km/h, an impressive feat for a newcomer to the sport.

Known for his involvement in various sports events, Flav has served as a mayo-pourer at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, performed during Super Bowl weeks, supported Olympians like discus thrower Veronica Fraley, and acted as the hype man for the U.S. women’s water polo team at the Paris Olympics. His presence with the bobsled and skeleton teams has energized the athletes, fostering a sense of camaraderie and confidence within the group.

Flav’s enthusiasm for sports and genuine support for the USA team have been well-received by team members and officials. His upcoming plans include participating in a slider camp in Park City post-Olympics. USA Bobsled and Skeleton CEO Aron McGuire expressed excitement about Flav’s sponsorship, highlighting his embodiment of perseverance, dedication, and patriotism that resonate with the team and fans nationwide.
