Erika Kirk, now the head of Turning Point USA following her husband Charlie Kirk’s tragic death in September, announced at the organization’s annual youth conference in Phoenix, Arizona, that they are determined to support Vice-President JD Vance’s bid for the presidency in 2028.
Kirk expressed her commitment to ensuring the election of JD Vance as the 48th President of the United States, emphasizing their close friendship that began back in 2017. Vance, a familiar figure on Charlie Kirk’s podcast, received Kirk’s endorsement during his U.S. Senate campaign in Ohio in 2022.
Since Charlie Kirk’s untimely demise on September 10 during an event at a Utah university campus, JD Vance has stepped in to host Kirk’s podcast and participate in a Turning Point event at the University of Mississippi.
During a memorial for Kirk on September 15, Vance credited Kirk for his political journey, stating that without Kirk, he wouldn’t have become Vice-President. Despite insinuations of foul play in Kirk’s death, no concrete evidence has emerged linking the 22-year-old suspect to any accomplices.
Erika Kirk, 37, who was unanimously elected as Turning Point’s new leader, hinted at her support for Vance in the upcoming presidential election, a move considered somewhat unusual given the distance to the actual election date.
JD Vance, who has been emphasizing his focus on the upcoming midterms, brings a diverse background as a potential candidate, with his military service, legal education at Yale, and previous venture capitalist experience. However, his tenure as a Senator was unremarkable in terms of legislative output, unlike some of his predecessors in the Vice-President role.
Amid discussions about the 2028 Republican presidential race, President Donald Trump has teased the idea of running for a fourth term, while also praising the potential candidacies of JD Vance and Marco Rubio. Trump’s approval ratings have faced challenges, and he will be 82 at the conclusion of his current term.
The landscape for the 2028 election remains uncertain, with various potential candidates, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, showing interest. Polling data has suggested a close race between Ocasio-Cortez and Vance, with the former expressing confidence in her ability to outperform any opponent.
While speculations swirl around the future of the Republican Party and its potential nominees, the political arena continues to evolve as key players position themselves for the upcoming electoral contests.
