Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada secured a spot in the final of the Paris Masters tennis tournament by defeating Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in straight sets on Saturday. The Montreal player, ranked 9th, emerged victorious with a score of 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the semifinals against the 13th-seeded Bublik.

In the upcoming final on Sunday, Auger-Aliassime will compete against Jannik Sinner from Italy, who dominated his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev of Germany, winning 6-0, 6-1. This victory puts Sinner in contention for the world No. 1 ranking.

The head-to-head record between Auger-Aliassime and Sinner stands at 2-2, with Sinner claiming victory in their last two encounters, including at the U.S. Open semifinals this year. Auger-Aliassime’s win in the semifinals also secured him the eighth and final qualifying spot for the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy next month, surpassing Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti.

After the Paris Masters, regardless of the final outcome, Auger-Aliassime will hold a 90-point lead over Musetti, heading into the Moselle Open in Metz, France next week. On the other hand, Musetti is set to compete in Athens.

Auger-Aliassime, who has already clinched titles this year in Adelaide, Montpellier, and Brussels, is aiming for his ninth career title and his first at the Masters level. The Canadian player managed to defeat Bublik in 96 minutes on Saturday, showing impressive form.

Expressing his excitement, Auger-Aliassime mentioned, “A Masters 1000 final sounds really good. You don’t play those finals every week. Hopefully, I can go all the way and get the title.”

In the match against Bublik, Auger-Aliassime made a strong comeback after being down 4-1 in the second set. He showcased his prowess with 31 winners, including 17 on his forehand, and successfully converted three out of four break points earned during the game.

Bublik, who initially started the second set with vigor, faltered towards the end by losing five consecutive games, displaying frustration by smashing his racket on the ground. Auger-Aliassime sealed the victory by serving for the match, landing his 12th ace. He finished off with a forehand winner and celebrated the win with gratitude towards the crowd.

Reflecting on his performance, Auger-Aliassime stated, “I know what I can do against the best players in the world, but you still have to go and execute.”
