Canada’s Alphonso Davies made a comeback for Bayern Munich after 262 days following a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old from Edmonton entered the game as a substitute in the 88th minute during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League at Allianz Arena. Josip Stanisic started as the left back for Bayern against Sporting, but Davies hinted on the Film Never Lies podcast the day before that coach Vincent Kompany might include him in the match.
Regarding his playing time, Davies mentioned, “I’m not certain if I will receive playing minutes. Ultimately, that decision lies with the coach.” Davies took the field, replacing Serge Gnabry, a goal-scorer for Bayern. His last game was in March, where he sustained a knee injury while playing for Canada against the United States in a CONCACAF Nations League match. The injury involved a ligament tear and other knee damage.
Following his injury, Bayern criticized the Canadian national team for allegedly failing to conduct proper medical assessments on Davies’ injury before he flew back to Germany.
