Renowned author George R.R. Martin recently shared a heartfelt update on his blog, reflecting on the tumultuous rollercoaster of emotions he has experienced lately. In his post, he expressed gratitude for the nine Emmy nominations received by the HBO series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” based on his novella “The Hedge Knight,” derived from the same universe as the popular TV show “Game of Thrones.”
Acknowledging a prolonged absence from his blog since February, Martin credited his team for keeping fans informed in his stead. He candidly opened up about the personal challenges he has faced, including the loss of friends and battles with sadness and depression, emphasizing the hardships of aging at 77.
Despite the struggles, Martin highlighted the recent “amazing times” he has enjoyed, notably the series’ Emmy nominations, with hopes of attending the awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Notably absent from the update was any mention of progress on the eagerly anticipated sixth book in his “Song of Ice and Fire” series.
Previously addressing the prolonged delay in completing “Winds of Winter” during a New York Comic Con appearance in 2025, Martin admitted to struggles with meeting deadlines, emphasizing his discomfort with breaching contracts or missing timelines.
