Vancouver has been selected to host Canada’s first-round Davis Cup Qualifiers match against Brazil, as confirmed by Tennis Canada on Thursday. The competition, featuring a best-of-five tie, is scheduled for February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre located on the University of British Columbia campus.
The victor of this matchup will progress to the second round of qualifiers for the international men’s tournament, slated for September 2026. Canada, ranked ninth, will face off against Brazil, ranked 18th, with Canada having won 10 of their last 12 ties on home soil. The two teams last encountered each other in 2007 during the Group I Americas stage, where Brazil emerged victorious with a 3-1 win.
Canada has a strong record in Vancouver, securing victories in their last three Davis Cup ties, which included notable wins against Spain and Italy en route to the 2013 semifinals. In their most recent Vancouver tie in 2015, Canada triumphed over Japan with a 3-2 scoreline.
Following a 4-0 win over Israel in World Group I play in September, Canada earned a spot in the 2026 tournament qualifiers. The match in Halifax was held without spectators due to protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
Having claimed their sole Davis Cup title in 2022 by defeating Australia in the final, Canada faced setbacks in subsequent years. They were relegated to the qualifying pool after a 2-0 loss to Germany in the 2024 quarterfinals and further dropped to the World Group 1 level following a 3-2 defeat to Hungary in the initial round of 2025 qualifying.
