Grab your favorite summer drink and get ready because “Summer House” is making its way to Canada, trading the Hamptons for Ontario’s beautiful cottage country. Hayu, NBCUniversal’s reality streaming platform, and Lark Productions from British Columbia have confirmed that filming has started for “Summer House Canada” in the picturesque Muskoka region, marking the first international adaptation of the popular reality show.
Hendrik McDermott, NBCUniversal’s managing director for international DTC, expressed excitement about Muskoka being the ideal Canadian backdrop for “Summer House Canada,” leveraging the franchise’s success. The Canadian version will mirror its U.S. counterpart, showcasing a group of friends who spend weekends at a shared cottage, navigating relationships and drama.
Erin Haskett, the president and executive producer at Lark Productions, highlighted the global appeal of “Summer House” with its genuine friendships and vibrant personalities. This production company is also known for shows like “The Real Housewives of Toronto” and “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.”
The Canadian reality TV landscape has seen other adaptations recently, such as “Canada Shore” filming its second season in Kelowna for Paramount+ and the anticipated return of “Big Brother Canada” to CTV and Crave.
Following the U.S. version’s Emmy nomination for best unstructured reality program after ten seasons, the Canadian rendition is set to consist of 10 episodes exclusively available on Hayu. Casting details will be revealed in the upcoming months, with the series scheduled to debut in 2027.
