A tornado was confirmed to have touched down near Kemptville, Ontario, last Sunday by tornado researchers. The twister formed during a passing storm, causing damage to trees and fields, as reported by the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) at Western University. Survey results showed tree damage consistent with a peak wind speed of 115 km/h along a short, narrow path. Researchers estimated the tornado’s initiation at 3:45 p.m., with a northeastward travel distance of 1.18 kilometers. The team assessed the tornado as an EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, the lowest category for tornado and downburst classification, which ranges from EF0 to EF5. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. Over that weekend, Environment Canada issued a yellow-level rainfall warning for eastern Ontario and western Quebec, cautioning that rainfall amounts between 50 and 100 millimetres were expected.
