Alannah Keyser, aged 21, has been ousted from the ongoing season of Love Island USA for using a racial slur in a recently surfaced online video. Keyser, a college student from Miami, joined the show as a surprise addition during the Casa Amor episodes of the reality dating series. Shortly after her arrival at the villa on June 21, an old Snapchat video emerged showing Keyser singing along to a song that contained the N-word, reportedly from rapper Roddy Ricch’s track “The Box.”
In a typical fashion for the show, the narrator of Love Island USA, Iain Stirling, announced Keyser’s sudden departure during Thursday night’s episode with a simple statement, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.” Following her initial appearance on Season 8, where she seemed to connect with contestant Zach Georgiou, viewers noticed a decrease in her screen time, with some Reddit users pointing out her minimal presence in a recent episode.
Keyser’s situation is not an isolated incident for this season or the franchise as a whole. Prior to the season premiere, Vasana Montgomery was removed from the cast after old clips of her using a racial slur resurfaced. Last year, incidents involving racial slurs also led to the removal of two Season 7 islanders from the show.
Yulissa Escobar was one of the contestants removed due to resurfaced clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast shortly after the Season 7 premiere. In response, Escobar issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging her mistake and expressing regret for the impact of her words. Another Season 7 contestant, Cierra Ortega, was also ousted from the show for similar reasons, and she publicly accepted the consequences of her actions on TikTok.
