Canada’s Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha secured a silver medal in the ice dance category at the Skate America figure skating tournament held on Sunday. Their combined score totaled 197.16 points. The gold medal was clinched by Madison Chock and Evan Bates from the United States with a score of 212.58, while France’s Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud claimed the bronze medal with a score of 192.61. Another Canadian pair, Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer, finished in ninth place with a total score of 165.68.
Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, along with Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Ethier, are the only Canadians who managed to secure medals at this prestigious event.
Expressing their joy and satisfaction with their performance, Lajoie commented, “We are incredibly proud and pleased with how we skated and the outcome. Coming in second place holds significant meaning for us as we put in a lot of effort between the Skate Canada and Skate America competitions. I believe we executed our routine exceptionally well.” Lagha added, “Given the circumstances, we couldn’t have asked for a better performance. It was flawless!”
On the previous day, Laurin and Ethier had also clinched the bronze medal in the pairs event. Laurin expressed, “Winning a medal was beyond our expectations, and we are thrilled about it.” Ethier chimed in, “This achievement is crucial for us, especially considering the challenging start to our season. Delivering our best performance on the international stage feels incredibly rewarding.”
