Brad Marchand scored a goal for the Florida Panthers during Saturday night’s game, dedicating it to Selah Panacci-MacCallum. Selah, the daughter of his close friend JP MacCallum, recently passed away from a rare form of cancer. Marchand’s goal, his sixth of the season and the 430th of his career, held special significance as a tribute to Selah.
Following his goal, Marchand expressed his emotions, mentioning that it had been a tough week for him. He also highlighted the importance of honoring Selah’s memory through his performance on the ice. In the shootout, Marchand secured the winning goal, leading the Panthers to a 4-3 victory over the Dallas Stars.
Marchand acknowledged the support he received from his friends in Nova Scotia and believed that Selah was watching over him. He emphasized the joy Selah found in hockey and how important it is to cherish each moment in life, especially during challenging times.
Having missed a previous game to support his friend’s family, Marchand also temporarily coached a local under-18 hockey team in Halifax. The game served as a fundraiser for the MacCallum family, highlighting the community’s support during their difficult time.
Reflecting on his experience, Marchand shared a newfound perspective on life’s preciousness and the value of living each day to the fullest. He emphasized the impact Selah had on him and vowed to honor her memory by appreciating every moment and not taking life for granted.
