Paris prosecutor announced on Saturday that two additional suspects have been formally charged in connection with the theft of the crown jewels from the Louvre museum. Laure Beccuau, the prosecutor, revealed that a 37-year-old individual was charged with theft by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy, while a 38-year-old woman was accused of being an accomplice. Both suspects have been placed in custody and have denied any involvement in the crime.

This development comes after the recent arrest of five individuals, one of whom was identified through DNA evidence. Earlier in the week, two men aged 34 and 39 were charged with similar offenses in relation to the heist. According to Laure Beccuau, the two men, who are believed to have forcibly entered the Apollo Gallery, provided limited and somewhat confessional statements. One of the suspects was apprehended at Charles-de-Gaulle Airport attempting to board a one-way flight to Algeria, with his DNA matching samples recovered from a scooter used during the escape.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities or detailed backgrounds of the arrested individuals, citing French legal provisions that protect the confidentiality of ongoing investigations. Under the “secret d’instruction” policy, information related to the case must remain confidential to safeguard police operations and respect the privacy rights of victims. Only the prosecutor is authorized to disclose updates on the investigation, with penalties for any unauthorized disclosures.
