Former Beast Industries Employee Sues MrBeast Over Maternity Leave Termination

Featured in:

A former employee of Beast Industries is taking legal action against MrBeast’s media production company, alleging that she was terminated from her role as a social media manager after returning from maternity leave. The lawsuit, filed by Lorrayne Mavromatis in a federal court in North Carolina, claims that the company violated federal laws regarding job-protected leave for childbirth and discriminated based on sex and pregnancy.

Mavromatis also filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, accusing the company of retaliation. She stated that she worked tirelessly even after giving birth, mentioning that she had to continue working while still recovering. Less than three weeks after her return to full-time work, she claims she was fired.

A spokesperson for Beast Industries dismissed the lawsuit as a “clout-chasing complaint” and explained that Mavromatis’s position was eliminated during a reorganization. The company provided evidence showing that Mavromatis was informed of her rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act.

The lawsuit sheds light on the company culture at Beast Industries, raising concerns about workplace discrimination and harassment. The legal action comes amidst the company’s expansion efforts and previous controversies surrounding the internal culture. MrBeast, the popular YouTube creator behind the company, has been striving to improve the workplace environment following past scandals.

The lawsuit also details the intense work environment at Beast Industries, where employees were allegedly encouraged to go to extremes to fulfill their duties. Mavromatis described instances where she felt pressured to work even under challenging circumstances, including participating in work meetings while in labor.

The legal battle signifies a broader struggle against workplace harassment and discrimination, with organizations like the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund supporting Mavromatis’s case. The lawsuit underscores the importance of accountability and addressing toxic workplace cultures to create safe environments for all employees.
