“Community Holds Vigil for Missing Siblings”

Featured in:

Five blue balloons floated gently in the breeze under a picturesque sky outside a Nova Scotia RCMP detachment during a candlelight vigil for missing siblings Jack and Lilly Sullivan. The gathering, attended by around 40 people, included community members and friends and family of the children.

The siblings, Jack aged 5 and Lilly aged 6, were reported missing on May 2 by their mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, who said they had wandered away from their home in Lansdowne. Despite extensive searches and investigations by the RCMP, there has been no breakthrough in the case.

During the vigil, attendees listened to a prayer, poem, and song dedicated to Jack and Lilly. Haley Ferdinand, the children’s aunt, expressed the family’s unwavering hope for answers while reflecting on the ordeal. Jack was described as an energetic boy who enjoyed outdoor activities, while Lilly was depicted as a charming young girl.

The event marked the first time that all sides of the family had come together since the children’s disappearance. Tensions had arisen previously, particularly between Brooks-Murray and her former boyfriend, Daniel Martell, who is the children’s stepfather. However, all parties united for the solemn occasion, gathering around a makeshift memorial adorned with Jack and Lilly’s names, stuffed animals, toy cars, and candles.

Although Brooks-Murray did not attend the vigil, she was commemorating Jack’s birthday with her mother. Messages of support and hope were shared, emphasizing the family’s determination to find the missing children safe and sound.

The vigil concluded with emotional readings and speeches, including a poem by Belynda Gray, the children’s paternal grandmother. The RCMP reiterated their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of Lilly and Jack, acknowledging the profound impact the case has had on the community and beyond.

Despite the mysteries surrounding the case and various speculations, the community remains steadfast in their support and efforts to keep the memory of Jack and Lilly alive. An original song titled “Where Are They” played during the event, evoking strong emotions among attendees.

The memorial set up outside the RCMP detachment will be displayed by a local contractor until spring or until there are significant developments in the investigation. The vigil served as a poignant reminder of the ongoing search for answers and closure in the unsettling disappearance of the Sullivan siblings.
