Family of Minneapolis Mother Accuses ICE in Tragic Death

Featured in:

The family of Renee Nicole Good has accused U.S. federal immigration officers of causing the death of the Minneapolis mother while she was following their instructions. They have hired the law firm that represented George Floyd’s family to seek justice and accountability. Good, 37, is remembered by her loved ones as a “peaceful individual,” and they have requested that her death not be politicized. The law firm, Romanucci & Blandin, will share details from their investigation soon.

The Justice Department has stated that there is no reason to launch a federal civil rights inquiry into the shooting by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, while the FBI is conducting its own investigation. The ICE officer’s actions, defended by the Trump administration as self-defense, have been criticized by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and others based on video evidence.

In response to the incident, approximately six federal prosecutors in Minnesota have resigned, and several supervisors in the civil rights division in Washington have also announced their departures. Good’s family is seeking answers regarding the federal operation on January 7, the officers’ conduct during the encounter, and the delay in providing medical assistance after the shooting. The identity of the ICE agent who fired the fatal shot has not been disclosed.

According to Romanucci & Blandin, Renee Nicole Good and her partner had dropped off their child at school and were observing law enforcement activity before the tragic event unfolded. The attorneys mentioned that Good appeared to be trying to drive away from the agent before being shot, although an official account has not been released.

The law firm, known for securing a $27-million settlement for George Floyd’s family, is now representing Becca Good, Renee Nicole Good’s partner, as well as her parents and siblings. Becca Good highlighted the unjust nature of Renee’s death and emphasized that they were there to support their neighbors during the incident. Despite multiple attempts to reach Becca Good and her family, they have not responded to media inquiries.
