Netflix Canada revealed its plans to bring another one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels to the screen in a recent announcement. The streaming service has greenlit a 10-episode series based on Fortune’s third book, “This Summer Will Be Different.”
The story follows Lucy, who finds herself on Prince Edward Island one summer where she encounters Felix in a night filled with intense chemistry. The twist? Felix happens to be the younger brother of Lucy’s best friend, Bridget. Despite her efforts to avoid Felix during her annual visits to P.E.I., Lucy struggles to resist his allure.
As the plot thickens, Bridget faces a crisis just before her wedding, prompting Lucy to accompany her back to P.E.I. While trying to guard her heart, Lucy questions whether she truly wants to maintain her emotional barriers.
The upcoming television adaptation of the novel will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to stay true to the book’s settings. Carley Fortune, the Toronto-based author and journalist, shared her excitement about bringing the romantic tale to life on screen, drawing inspiration from her own experiences on the picturesque island.
Fortune, known for her captivating storytelling, has penned other novels such as “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” Her latest book, “Our Perfect Storm,” is set to be published soon.
Additionally, fans can look forward to the television adaptation of “Every Summer After” titled “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video. Furthermore, “Meet Me at the Lake” has been picked up for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions, the production company of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Meet Me at the Lake” made history as the first romance title to be considered for the prestigious “Canada Reads,” supported by Mirian Njoh in 2024. The book continues to garner attention and acclaim within the literary and entertainment spheres.
